Talent Attraction, Talent Acquisition, Recruiting all have one common requirement – the ability to build relationships with candidates.

Why is this skill required? The foundation of a successful search to find the best candidate for an opening is the ability to build trust with the candidates.

How Do You Build Trust?

As the Recruiter, you build trust by telling the truth, by responding to the candidate(s) when you say you will, and returning calls even when you have no new information for them. On one hand, building trust is not difficult. For many people, it appears they feel they do not have the time to communicate with candidates.

Keep this one truth in mind. It does not matter how many professional openings that a Recruiter is handling, you fill them one at a time.

Losing the trust of a candidate will prolong your searches because they will no longer listen to you or follow your advice about their interview dress, interview coaching, salary negotiation – and if you manage to get them this far, your counteroffer coaching.  Do you want to work so hard to source, interview, and extend an offer, only to lose this potential employee to a counteroffer? Not me! Isn’t returning a quick call worth the effort of retaining trust?

How Does Candidate Trust Benefit You and The Candidate?

Isn’t our goal to find a great match for both our company and our candidate? Retention is the last step of the Recruiting is a SALES Process. If it is not a great match, you will spend all of that time finding someone. Then they will leave shortly after they start – and you are starting all over again.

Personally, I feel it is better to make Great Matches so both sides are happy.
