Intentionally, this is a quick read (yet still impactful) because your next two weeks will be busy winding up your year both in business and personally.

How Do You Network for Candidates At Holiday Parties?

Networking at Holiday Parties is amazingly painless! Simply talk to the people in attendance with you. Ask them what they do. As they are speaking, ask them what they like and dislike about their jobs. Then ask them if they know anyone with the experience that you need to fill a position in your organization. They are doing most of the talking, and enjoy talking about themselves.

We live in a very small world. Two weeks ago, after a podcast where I was a guest, the host and I chatted. He told me if I ever got back to Maryland to give him a call. I told him that we were going to have a family reunion in Maryland next summer. His eyes opened wide when I told him where. He asked if I knew a certain restaurant back in the day? I responded that my younger Brother was the Manager. His mouth dropped. He knew my brother. As I mentioned, We live in a very small world.

The same is true of the people at the Holiday Party. Who knows who they know? Their best friend, spouse, or neighbor may have the right experience – and be interested in making a move now.

In The United States, We Tend To Identify Ourselves By What We Do

Use that tendency to your recruiting advantage. People are used to responding to a question about what they do. Many times they are disappointed if you do not ask because they expect you to ask them, “What do You do?”

This Holiday networking helps those people to pay it forward when they receive a networking phone call from someone who was referred to them. You will attract candidates, instead of painfully waiting for another department to forward the wrong candidates to you because the organization’s Applicant Tracking System screened them out.
