#JobSearch #Friday DOES COVID-19 IMPACT YOUR CAREER SEARCH? YOU MAY BE SURPRISED
Saying that Covid-19 has disrupted our lives is an understatement. In many ways, it has changed our lives, possibly permanently. How has it changed our Career Searches?
As an expert Professional Recruiter with over 40 years of experience, my experience counsels you that you may be in an excellent position to conduct a career change or find a new job, especially if you are out of work.
How Can That Be?
Consider several facts:
- The retirement of millions of Baby Boomers has created a need for experienced professionals and hourly workers.
- “The Great Resignation” has opened additional positions for sharp professionals who want to leverage their experience into a better position.
- According to the Center For Disease Control (CDC), effective December 25,2021, there are 291,949 people in the range of ages from 18 to 64 who have died from Covid-19. Most of those people held jobs.
- We have lost many other workers in that age group from accidents, cancer, and other causes.
While not attempting to be a Billy Downer, these numbers illustrate potential openings for new employees. This is an opportunity for any professional or hourly worker who has the desire to grow their career.
How May I Take Advantage Of These Career Opportunities?
If you have your Covid-19 vaccinations and a booster, Let companies know when you are speaking with them about an opening. Let’s face it, sooner or later the health insurance companies will penalize unvaccinated workers, as they did smokers. Statistics show that fewer than 0.005% of vaccinated people who suffer a breakthrough Covid-19 infection end up in expensive ICU beds (CDC). Can you imagine the cost savings if every qualified person were vaccinated? Those higher costs will be passed on to people who refuse their free vaccinations and end up in the hospital with Covid-19. Insurance companies live by their statistics.
Everyone may make their own decision on vaccinations. Take advantage of the additional 25% of Americans who are unvaccinated to leverage your experience into a better paying position. Simply by sharing your vaccination status you are demonstrating a better health status than the unvaccinated. Once companies find their healthcare insurance costs soaring, they will pass those costs on to the unvaccinated, require vaccinations (as they are required for school attendance), and refuse to hire unvaccinated workers.
My suggestion is to include your vaccination status on your resume in your SUMMARY. My feeling is that job descriptions will soon begin to require vaccinations. The unvaccinated will be screened out immediately, leaving the vaccinated professionals as the remaining acceptable candidates.

Companies need your talents! They are actively looking for experienced workers who are fully vaccinated. In all of history, this is one of the best times to search for a new position!
