What is the BENEFIT of Attracting Passive Candidates?
A Passive Candidate is a person with Top Talent in your field who is not searching for a new position. Their actions are similar to the cow Moose in my photo. The Moose will only come into our yard very occasionally, curious if we have delicious new plants. We may see them, or we may not. The same is true of the Passive Candidate. Since they are not actively looking for a new position, they may wander through your website simply because they are curious – and you never knew they were there.
How Do We Attract Passive Candidates?
Passive Candidates are special people, similar to the Moose. Moose do not hang with a herd, like deer. You will not find Passive Candidates amongst the “herd” of 100 candidates applying for a job.
Generally, Passive Candidates know their skills are special. How? They are given the best, most interesting projects. Are they only technical professionals? You may find them in all fields – Sales, IT, Research, Engineers, Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, everywhere.
- Therefore Executives, decide where your team needs to upgrade talent.
- Who are local or industry leaders in those areas?
- Network with them because Top Performers know each other.
- Understand you will need to compensate a Top Performer more than a borderline engaged employee.
- Then discuss interests with that person to understand what position they seek next. This helps you determine if their interests match your needs.
- Your actions demonstrate that you recognize their potential importance to your organization.
- Only ask them to make small decisions, “The next small step is to meet with us in our office.”
- Once you negotiate an offer that is accepted, it is important to discuss the dangers of accepting a counteroffer.
What is the BENEFIT of Attracting Passive Candidates?
Attracting Top Talent should be the goal of any company that desires to grow their business profitability. The passive candidate, who did not know they were unhappy until their discussions with your firm, will arrive engaged with different ways of looking at products, services, or processes. Their ideas and experience potentially will grow your revenues exponentially.
Additionally, Top Talent recognizes other members of the Top Talent Society. They love being surrounded with other Top Talent. They will actively help grow your Top Talent team.
Therefore, a Passive Candidate who is deftly recruited will make a difference in company performance and the Talent Attraction of other Top Talent.
