This week, I assisted my client to hire a Senior Recruiter and a Principal Electrical Engineer P.E. Why am I leading this blog with that statement?

Your Job Search Mirrors The Sales Process PERFECTLY

Most professionals are not aware their Career Search is a SALES Process – nor do they want to hear that fact. The professionals who embrace the job search as a Sales Process find their new position quicker than those who post their resume to endless Internet job postings.

Both of the professionals who accepted our offers this week networked their way to interviews.

If you are in a career search, how is your responsiveness judged by the recruiter and the managers? Think of recruiters like a bee that is gathering pollen for their hive, flying from one flower to another. The hives are their open positions and the candidates are the flowers. If a candidate is not responsive, they fly to the next person who is responsive.

This week, two of the candidates for the Senior Recruiter position (Of ALL positions!) were not responsive enough – and lost the opportunity to interview for a position. Once a company is prepared to interview candidates for a position, they are ready to Buy NOW!

The other 3 candidates responded quickly and we interviewed them onsite in 2 days. The Manager made the hiring decision after the second interview yesterday (Friday). We extended the offer at 4:59 PM and the candidate accepted at 5:03 PM.

What Is Your Message If You Are NOT Responsive?

I understand that candidates have lives and many are working elsewhere. If you do not take a few minutes to respond promptly, the message you send to the recruiter and hiring manager is “I am not really interested in this position.” It may be true or it may not, either way, as a Recruiter I am moving on that quickly.

Like you, recruiters and managers are working under deadlines. Respond quickly when contacted about a new position. This practice will increase your odds of finding your dream job!
