#JobSearch #Friday – Your Universe Will Help You!

Yesterday, I received a phone call from a total stranger. They saw my 3 minute interview on a local television station in March where we discussed the millions of people out of work and the first steps they needed to take to find a job.

They were desperate. Their husband was out of work. Financially, they were near ruin. They just had to do something differently. The wife called me to ask if I could help her husband find a job.

He is a professional with an advanced degree. He has been looking for a new position for over a year. Then Covid-19 hit, and his temporary job ended.

They were at their wit’s end – as many people reading this thought leadership are.

God (Universe) Will Help

I believe in God and realize some people do not. Most of us believe in some type of higher, connecting energy. Call God what you will but I feel calling the force the Universe also works. The Universe connects all of us in some fashion.

This was not the first time someone reached out to me who was in a similar position. In fact, we moved during the recession from 2008 to 2012. When we arrived in Park City, UT in 2009, a community member reached out to me and asked if I would co-found and co-facilitate a group to help people out of work. Of course, I accepted!

Over 6 ½ years, we coached at least 108 community members to new career positions – and those were the people who contacted and thanked us. We met weekly, and our coaching was free.

The purpose of this story was not to pat me, Ellen, Anne, or Pat on the back. The purpose is to illustrate that there are people happy to help you. You need to seek them out. They know you are out there, but they do not know who YOU are.

Okay, What Should I Do?

This brings us back to God. Many times, churches are places where you may find some assistance. The Priest, Rabbi, or Reverend would be happy to speak with you. They know that sometimes God sends people to them, as He does with me. Most of them do not care if you are a member of their religion – or even believe in God. They recognize that sometimes God works in mysterious ways. Remember the TV Show “God Friended Me”? It has interested me how many times and how many different ways people found their way to me.

Do not be afraid to ask for help. In my experience, many people are happy to help in times of need. They just need to know You need their assistance. There will be some people who will not help because they do not understand Karma (Universe), until they find themselves in a similar position. Shake them off and focus on your next call. Sooner or later, you will find someone like me – or me.

Remember the saying, “God helps those who help themselves?” This applies at this moment in your life.

Take charge of your career search! Do not allow Artificial Intelligence in company Applicant Tracking Systems and Job Boards to determine your qualifications! Find people in your personal or professional community to introduce you. Oh, this is called networking!
