#JobSearch #Friday – Tough Time to Focus On Your Job Search!
This is a difficult time to search for your next job. There are 39 million people out of work due to Covid-19. This is coupled with the horrible death of George Floyd at the hands of 4 Minneapolis Police Officers that has everyone’s eyes focused on the television.
This blog is focused on You, not outside issues, no matter how serious they are.
What Are Your First Steps?
First, Determine what is your dream job. What do you do that you do well? This is important to determine. From that list, put an asterisk next to the skills and experience that you performed well THAT You ENJOY Doing! Why look for a job you dislike?
Now create stories that demonstrate you have the skills or experience that you do well. Structure your stories around the 4 Ws from my book, Employee 5.0: Secrets Of A Successful Job Search In A New World Order.
- What was the Challenge?
- What were your Analysis and your Action?
- What was the Result?
- What did you Learn? (It is always important to add a couple of stories where your analysis and action did not deliver the expected result.)
Humans remember stories better than facts. I believe we are hardwired to remember stories from cavemen and women days. This is the beginning of Interview Preparation.
Who Wants Your Service?
Determine who would need your skills and experience. Then find people who would introduce you to the hiring manager. Do not be convinced there is no job at that company, simply because there is no job posting. As a Professional Recruiter with over 39 years of Recruitment experience, I have recruited candidates for Hundreds of positions that were never posted.
All companies need common functions: Executive, Accounting, Sales, Marketing, Human Resources, Finance, Operations, etc. Where do you best fit – AND is it a position and company that would delight you?
You Can Do This!
Since I have been a Professional Coach for 25 years in addition to my Talent Attraction Recruitment experience, I know what you are thinking. You believe that with SO Many people out of work, it will take forever to find a job.
Change your thinking! You are looking for ONE Position, not 39 million positions. Your concern needs to focus on the one job that will make you happy and pay you a fair compensation.
Consider that since March 15 (During #Covid-19), ten professionals that I coached found new positions that excited them! At least half of them accepted offers that were HIGHER than their last position. Many of those professionals searched for less than 60 days for their new position. Several of them had two offers to choose from!
Companies are hiring. Will you spend the time and effort to focus and find them so they may offer you a new position?
If you want or need to accelerate your #Jobsearch, please immediately click on this link to my recent book, Employee 5.0: Secrets Of A Successful Job Search In The New World Order – http://amzn.to/2D9w39f My book contains the 12 Steps to find a new position in a nice, orderly fashion. It also has the stories of people who did well – and some who did not. You may learn from both sides.
