I know that you know that your Career Search is not Magic.

During a podcast where I was a guest this morning, the host told me that in April 2020, he replied to over 300 job postings – and did not hear a reply from one of them beyond the requisite, “Thank you for your application. It went into the BLACK HOLE, that we named the Artificially Intelligent Applicant Tracking System.” (Well, truthfully, I added the 2nd sentence). Why?

If you are conducting your career search by posting to online Job Boards, you must believe in Magic. According to the Career Transition industry, only 8% of all jobs are filled by magic, err, posting online.

But The Job Boards Say…

Their advertising makes it look like magic, doesn’t it? Apply here and the company will call you immediately!

Did you miss their ads for companies that pay for their service? “We will deliver the best candidates to your company!” Is that magic too? No, they use screening software to screen Candidates OUT, like you.

How do I know this? I am a Professional Recruiter with over 40 years of Expert Recruiting experience. I have my own Applicant Tracking System.

Where my business is different is that I look at Every resume that is sent to my system. With companies’ Applicant Tracking Systems where Human Resources is the Recruiting Department, HR tells the Applicant Tracking System Companies to develop systems that screen out candidates. Those are the same systems that Job Boards use to screen you out.  If your resume does not have an 85% keyword match to the Job Description, your experience will be the same as today’s podcast host.

How Do I TAKE CHARGE Of My Career Search?

According to the Career Transition industry, between 74% to 76% of all jobs are filled by NETWORKING. Here are additional metrics for your Networking activity – If you speak with 2 NEW people per week, it will take you 12 months to find your next job. If you Network with 10 new people per week, you will find your next career in 6 months. Finally, if you Network with 20 new connections per week (ONLY 4 per day), you will find your next Career in 90 days. My Career Coach clients have found that number to be valid (of course, you must be sincerely making those calls, not texts nor emails).

Now you are Taking Charge of your search! More importantly, you are speaking with people who may help you make a difference in your Life – instead of hoping the not magic HR system works to your advantage.
