#JobSearch #Friday – MAKE IT EASY CONTACT INFORMATION!
As a Recruiter with 40 years of experience, you may imagine some of the 400,000 resumes I have read. There have been Great resumes. There have been very poor resumes – and there have been Great resumes with unfortunately no contact information.
As A Recruiter, What Am I Looking For?
Keep it simple! This is an example (the WordPress software placed the line spaces in my example) –
John Doe
Frederick, MD
410-555-5555 JDoe@gmail.com
There is no need for a street address. If the company hires you, they will receive your street address when you are onboarded. This amount of information tells me where you currently live. Your phone number and email address so I may contact you. Your LinkedIn profile helps me verify the information on your resume.
How May My Email Address Impact Me?
As you may imagine, I have seen some Beauts! Please keep in mind, your email address will reflect on you professionally – and depending upon the organization, maybe judged as inappropriate.
Therefore, it is best to refrain from using cutesy names – softandcuddly@, racecar@,bodybuilder@, etc. Any of those names may fail a candidate screen at a company – before you even get a call where you may explain the name.
Where Should I Place My Contact Information?
Make it easy for me! Place it in the body of your resume at the Top Center.
Some resume writers place contact information in a header. This is not a good idea because some applicant tracking systems cannot read headers and footers. Therefore, we receive your great resume and do not know who sent it – not good for your candidacy!
For some reason, some people will put their name at the top of the resume and their contact information at the bottom. Remember, you have 6 seconds of my time on my first pass of your resume. This is the pass that determines if your resume is placed in the “Definitely Interested” or “Definitely Not Interested” files. Make it easy for me to see your contact information so I may focus on your work impacts. This is where you want my focus.
Isn’t it interesting that something as simple as your contact information may prevent you from interviewing for your dream job?
Make your contact information clear and easy!

You may learn from both sides.
If you feel the need for professional Career Coaching, my business has 3 different packages. I work closely with Professionals in all three packages. The primary difference is the time and personal requirements.
- The first package is the 2 meetings Introductory Package. The 2 meetings cover the basics of a Career Search.
- The second package is the 6 month Gold Package. This package provides you with Career Search guidance and Career Coaching for your first months in your new position.
- The third package is the Titanium package. Call me for details on this package because it is tailored specifically for the individual.
My Talent Attraction business model is to work with one company at a time and charge a flat monthly fee. This enables me to become part of a company’s team for short or long periods. Therefore, I know what is going on behind the curtain that candidates and authors outside of my field cannot see.
I am here to help you further each week. Feel free to click on Follow US and Share at the bottom of our blog.
