Why Do I Need To Submit To An Assessment?

Companies struggle to find candidates who are good fits for their culture.  Assessments that are approved for use in the hiring process have been tested to determine they do not promote discrimination nor may be easily manipulated.

The primary purpose of assessments is to create a profile of you to determine if you will fit into the company culture, particularly with members of your team. The Wonderlic assessment purpose is to determine your cognitive abilities.  Wonderlic is an assessment that NFL draft choices are given.

An assessment may also help you determine how to best interface with members of your team.  Therefore, the tools are valuable for both sides when they are shared with you.

How Should I Take An Assessment?

It is best to take an assessment as you would take any test – allow your mind to quickly determine your answer. Your knee jerk reaction is probably the true reaction.  Many assessments test the consistency of your responses.  If your responses are not consistent, your results may be kicked out or the administrator will receive a note telling them about the inconsistencies.

Do not overthink the assessment.

I understand you may want the position. However, if it is not a good match, accept that result and network to another position.

My feeling is that assessments have a place in the hiring and recruiting process – if they are the appropriate assessment for the position.

What Positions Have Thorough Assessments?

If you are an Executive or an Enterprise Level Sales Professional, you may be required to participate in a more thorough assessment with a psychologist. This assessment may last 4 or 5 hours and require an interview with the psychologist and a bank of different assessments.

I have participated in one of these sessions. I found it very interesting.

The best practice, as always is, to tell the truth.
