As a seeker for a new career, often you wonder where you will find your next position.  Many times, you are in shock as you prepare your search.

Therefore, you fall back on your previous experience.  You look online – but times have changed. Now artificial intelligence has been introduced to Applicant Tracking Systems and Job Boards.  The purpose is to screen out all but the candidates with the right keyword matches. As an expert recruiter, let me give you some counsel.

Those applicant tracking systems are very literal.  If your resume does not match the words exactly, your resume will not be selected.  You need at least an 80% keyword match to be selected for an interview – sometimes a 90% match!

These companies are “talent acquisition companies”. They do not understand they are in a sales process while recruiting new employees.

What Should I Do?

May I suggest that you look at the job boards (Indeed, LinkedIn, Glassdoor, etc.) for positions, not for a job to apply. Search for the companies with openings in your field.  Then look at the company to determine who you should call to network to a Manager.

If you look up the company with an opening on LinkedIn, you will see who works at the company.  Do you know one of the employees?  Call them to ask if they will introduce you to the manager directly.  This practice enables a human to determine if you should be introduced to their company instead of artificial intelligence determining you are not qualified.

Take charge of your career search! Do not allow Artificial Intelligence to determine your qualifications!  Find people in your personal or professional community to introduce you. Oh, this is called networking!
