#JobSearch #Friday – DO YOU POST RESUMES ONLINE – AND PRAY THE RIGHT PERSON SEES THEM?

This practice is common among Job Seekers. They find a job on Indeed or a company website. Then they submit their resume – Easy-Peasy, sort of.

Unfortunately, this practice rarely works. According to the Career Transition industry (tracks the metrics how professionals find a new career), only 8% of all jobs are filled by submitting a resume to an online job posting. If you are looking at investments, would you choose the investment where there is only an 8% chance of return on your investment?

This method does not cost you any money! It only costs you time. This method simply requires that you talk with people, initially only people that you know. It is known as networking. As a Professional Recruiter, I network with candidates every day. Why? I may zero in on the perfect candidate for my client. Indeed (as a play on words), the last person that I recruited for my client was discovered as the result of networking with a contact.

You Network Almost Daily!

Many professionals complain that they do not know how to network. My response is, “You have networked your entire life. Remember as a child, when someone had something you wanted and you said, “Where d’ya get Dat?” That is networking. When you were in college, and asked friends, “Who was the best professor for a class?” – That was networking. When you moved to a new job and asked, “Where is the best place to go for lunch?” – That was networking.

Now you are investing time for your most important asset – your skills, experience, and attributes. Isn’t your career worth the effort of making only 4 networking calls per day to find a new position in 90 days worth your effort?  

Consider, this one action will ensure you will succeed in creating income for you and your family. Meanwhile, you will renew acquaintances with your former co-workers, friends, and relatives – all of whom would love to assist you in your search.
