What Are Your Concrete Company’s Plans for 2025?
This was my final article for Concrete Facts Magazine for the Concrete Foundations Association in December 2024.
In the article, we discussed the value of Proper Goal Setting to create a plan for the coming year. As the leading Talent Attraction Consultant, one of my questions is, “What are your hiring goals for the next 6 months to a year?” The response to this question helps me structure the required recruiting strategy for 6 months to a year.
Talent Attraction is not the only area of your business where Proper Goal Setting is important.
Companies that want to grow need a specific path to determine if their growth takes them toward success. Far too often, I hear senior staff members say, “We will throw more resources at a problem.” Would a better response be, “Let us examine our strategy to determine if we are on the best path. Then, determine if we should use those resources on a failing strategy – or create a new, better informed strategy.”
An example I used in the article was MCI Telecommunications’ strategy to lay fiber to the home (it was also called “The Last Mile). Little did they know, “The Last Mile” forecasted MCI’s demise. Instead of pivoting to becoming a cell phone giant with thousands of microwave towers across the US and overseas, MCI kept throwing money in “The Last Mile” ditch.
Ultimately, they were sold to Verizon, which immediately recognized the value MCI brought to its Cell phone coverage and access to MCI’s Enterprise business.
If your corporate goal is to grow your business organically, it is important to create a strategy. Then, test the concept to ensure its value for your company’s resources – sometimes the testing is called a Proof of Concept.
As a note, I supplied the Concrete Foundations Foundation with another photo. The image they chose on Smart Goals may appear.
