Oh, you may want to know why Job Boards are not your friend.

This was an email that I received this week after the sender read my #JobSearch #Friday Thought Leadership from last week, HOW SHOULD COMPANIES MOTIVATE PROFESSIONAL WOMEN TO PROFITABLY RETURN TO THE LABOR FORCE? – “As someone who applied to more than 175 positions throughout the end of 2019 and all of 2020, so much of this column was me. I had finally done exactly as you suggested and made a spreadsheet that I used to reach out to at least 5-10 people a week to network. I got the Editor gig because of networking.”

There is a secret about the large Job Boards that every Professional Career Seeker needs to know. They screen you out BEFORE their client sees your resume – and Then, the client screens you out!

How Do I Know When They Are Screening Me Out?

Simply listen to their advertising to employers.  The Human Resource Departments of most companies treat Recruiting as an Administrative/Compliance function. The balance of their functions are Administrative or Compliance functions – Benefits, Compensation, Training, Employee Relations, etc. Unfortunately for their companies, Recruiting (Talent Acquisition) mirrors the SALES Process perfectly.

If the Job Boards’ advertising to Employers states that they will match candidates to the Employers’ Job Descriptions, what are they doing? Screening out all candidates who have less than an 85% Job Description match. Unfortunately, their clients generally do not write Job Descriptions that accurately describe the job. The result is candidates tailor their resumes to mirror the Job Description – and do not necessarily include information that demonstrates the proper skills, attributes, and experience to be successful during the first year.

Would you believe that there is a way around the Human Resource Fort?  An AMAZING 74% to 76% of All Jobs are filled through Networking!

You have networked all of your life! As a child, “Did you ever ask, “Where didya’ get THAT?” As a student, did you ever ask, “Who is the Best (or Easiest) Professor for this course?” As an adult, have you ever asked where the best place is to buy tires?” Those are ALL examples of “Networking.”

If you speak to two new networking contacts every morning and two new networking contacts every afternoon, metrics demonstrate that you will find a new career in 90 Days!
